Sheet Piles
Sheet piles are an earth (or liquid) retention system where steel sheets with interlocking edges to create a wall. The wall provides lateral support and can be temporary or permanent. Sheets are installed by either driving with an impact hammer, vibrating with a vibratory hammers or pushed statically with a hydraulic load system. Sheet piles can be used as cantilevered walls or tiebacks can be installed if cantilevering is not efficient. The interlocking system can greatly reduce groundwater flow into the excavation. Sheet piles can support excavations for a variety of below grade structures and can be particularly useful for marine construction such as seawalls and bulkheads. Piles for temporary walls can be rented and removed/returned upon completion of the facility.
